How To install A Bike Rack on a Mini Cooper

I did a lot of research on what was the best bike rack to get for a mini cooper & the winner is the Yakima King Joe 2 . While the bike rack is cost effective ($135) the manual is lacking, so I thought I would share how to install the rack on your Mini Cooper properly. Today we are going to show you the Thule Raceway platform style two bike carrier, part number TH9003. To mount the Raceway on your vehicle, check the instructions for the proper fit dial setting. On our Jetta we need to be at number 7. The rack will sit on the trunk of the vehicle. The top two cables are going to hook to the trunk lid by the rear windshield. The bottom two cables will hook to the lower lip of the trunk lid. Once the rack is centered, you can use the knobs on the end of the rack to tighten up the cables. The trays on this rack will telescope out to accommodate bikes of varying lengths. Undo the latch and slide the tray out to fit your bike. Once the proper length is set, simply close the latch and the tray is locked in place. The arms of the rack will come down and clamp on to the top tube of the frame. We will put our bike in place, lower the arm and close the clamp on the tube. Once we have the clamp in place, we can secure the wheels with the included wheel straps. 0:57

This is the Ridgeline 4 bike hitch carrier. It carries up to 4 bikes comes with anti sway knob as well as anti sway for the bikes after they are installed. It comes with 2 locks, one for the actual hitch itself and one for the bikes after they are installed as well. This is a tilting bike rack as well as a folding bike rack which provides better storage for you when you are not using it. It can be converted into 1 inch and 1/4 by removing covering on the shank. All that requires is an alan key to unscrew it. Before we install this into our 2 inch hitch we are going to show you how convert it into 1 inch and a quarter. You go to this screw here and take this alan key and simply loosen it off, unscrew it, and this sheath slides off and it is ready for your inch and a quarter application. We are going to go ahead and install this and show you how it works. This actually uses a screw which serves as an anti sway device. Also, on the other end there is a lock that I will be showing you later. And you are provided with the tool to tighten it down. For added security there is also this locking knob that can go on the other side which comes with keys. Try not to lock it. This rack is secure. A 1/8 inch steel plate is mounted behind the license plate using existing holes leaving a small receiver in front of the plate. By utilizing a trunk strap all outward torquing forces are converted into downward shear forces enabling the bracket to be mounted on the thinnest of sheet metals. New technology allows mounting the bracket without access thru the nterior panel. Vehicles with the plate mounted on the plastic bumper skin will require the use of at least two of the supplied spacers and/or self tapping screws to secure to the steel or composite structure behind the plastic.
